| BOOKS POETRY: Fremantle Press interview May 2009 Frances published her first collection of poems 'Hidden Capacity ~ a poet's journey' herself while living and being inspired by workshops & writers in Ireland during 2003. 'Hidden Capactiy ~ a poet's journey' incorporates poems from three chapbooks: 'The Return of Rainbows' celebrates a return to study for her 50th 'Rail Tales' musings on the train, travelling to Uni and Perth city 'Exploring Possibilities' confronted by a second chance at love all of which are available by emailing Frances directly. As a thank you to the 55 poets who participated in her poetic events held in the State Library, Pages Cafe during the Spring Poetry Festival 2005, Frances published a chapbook showcasing those poets as a gift. Poet's Corner ~ 2005 ~ Pages Cafe. Poet's Corner happened on the 3rd Saturday of each month between July 2005, hosted & organised by Frances during the inaugural WA Spring Poetry Festival and until the last event in October 2008. (Photos & details on the website.) Frances enjoys putting together miniture chapbooks such as 'Love' which accompanied packets of delicious, home made fudge to give as gifts to friends. 'Sketching in Ireland' She's also busy putting together more books of poetry & short stories written in Ireland inspired by workshops & festivals peopled by Irish writing legends. Look out for new children's titles 'Baggies' & 'Dee nee Shee' and grown-up stories like 'The Stables' which will also be self-published as before. CHILDREN'S: Her first children's story 'The Swimming Pool People' won the FAWWA Furphy Award in 1994 for 'Best Children's Book Manuscript' and was later adapted to the stage and performed during Little Feet Festival in Joondalup, by Northern Youth Theatre. Frances is currently adapting the book to film ~ now called 'The Poolies' and is looking for a publsher/producer. Whilst the Artistic Director of Northern Youth Theatre, Frances helped her members put together a magazine about their activities. 'NYT Cont...' 'Santa's Swim' was written and illustrated by Frances, then offered for sale last year on a POD basis and is also currently finding a new life as an animated script. 'Mr Panda's Tea Party' was written as a series bible when they were popular but is still an excellent project for children's television. She's also writing another series for children called 'Baggies' conceived in Ireland. FICTION: Although she enjoys writing short stories, they always seem to end up as scripts. Frances is currently working on the 3rd draft of her novel 'Toy Soldier' and spine- chilling murder mystery set around Perth suburbs and the Blackwood Valley in the magnificent South West of Western Australia. And yes, you guessed it - it's being adapted to the big screen too. |
